Study/Social areas in the library

The water feature inside the design continues the waterfall theme on the interior.

The Lecture halls have wooden walls. These provide features to the room as well as providing direction that focuses the direction of attention to the front of the room. The wood also helps to maintain the natural feel in this room.

This image shows the cliff face being part of the interior wall of the gallery on the ground level of the design. this helps integrate the nature of the cliff face into the room

Views of the folly, valley and waterfall can all be obtained through some of the many tall thin windows of the design. These have been spaced randomly to mimic the glimpses of view that can be seen through the trees while walking through a rainforest like the one that surrounds the design.

Moving elements

The first of the moving elements is an elevator that provides access from the main section of the design to the folly at the base of the valley. It follows the path of a waterfall and descends with the water to give the effect of a slow motion waterfall.

The second moving element is a rotating platform that contains seats for the cafe within the design. The rotation of the platform ensures that anyone who is on it gets a full 360 degree view of the design and waterfall as well as a closer look at the cliff face that the design is attached to.

A custom texture and circulation items were then added for practicality completed the folly design

Custom textures

Textures

Texture 1 is used as a feature wall in the two student social rooms.

Texture 2 is used for the bottom of the artificial creek that runs through the design to create an extra element to the texture by looking at it through rippled moving water. This integrates the clearly unnatural texture with the natural flow of the water.

The final texture is used on the folly. It is a feature wall that sits in front of the design in the distance and mimics the flow of the waterfall  behind it in a simplistic but definite fashion.

Mashup

MASHUP
Aims to give the user a quiet peaceful place where they may not only view the landscape but somehow reflect upon it and introspect in the site. The entire complex is a three-dimensional space in which buildings on the ground, under the ground and over the ground are fused together. A series of stacked planes moulded with rounded edges, mirrors the surrounding topography to become an almost indiscernible mesh between the natural and the man-made. (This design is) more "organic" and which thus seemed to be more engaged with their surroundings while remaining, never based on realism but rather, the imagination. The design incorporates broad expanses of windows and the balconies are off main rooms giving a sense of the closeness of the surroundings. Gardens offer tranquil green spaces that promote harmony between man and nature through a design so well integrated with its site that buildings, furnishings, and surroundings become part of a unified, interrelated composition.

In my own words: The theory involves the interaction between the natural and built environment in both a physical and symbolic sense. This will be used to create a design that is so tightly woven with the nature that surrounds it that it becomes inseparable.
